This kit is an add-on to the RallyBird Baseball board game. You cannot play with out the base game, which provides a baseball contest between teams of equal potential. This kit provides way to match up teams of different ability–different mixes of strengths and weakness. It does so in two ways. Here’s what it includes:
- The Easy Advanced Game… Coach Defense Cards that change the array of Glove values of the standard RallyBird Baseball Board Game. For comparison, the standard game gives both players the same starting Glove values. This advanced game gives each player a different set of values–all with the same sum. I think this implies different strengths and weakness, different risks and benefits, and different strategies–all for you to discover. This does not add more than a minute to game play time. The rules fit on 1 page!
- Big League Teams… tiles and data. This includes 30 team tiles in red (Visitor) and blue (Home). It also includes data for the 2018 season. I intend to provide the 2019 season as well as a free download for owners of the kit. Unlike the Easy Advance Game, with which this does not mix, it offers variation of offense and defense for individual teams–in simple RallyBird Baseball game terms. The rules are on 1 page, with an example of play on a second page, and team data on 2 more pages.
- 24 new Glove tiles, 12 for each side. In support of the two add-ons above, this supports both the variable defenses of the Easy Advanced Game and the Big League Teams rules. The regular RallyBird Board Game does not include enough tiles to support either set of rules, so you need these to play.
These materials fit inside the regular RallyBird Baseball game box. You don’t have to pay for an extra box, nor grant it more shelf space.
As you can see I tried to make the video interesting and on point. When I finish cogitating the 2019 season data I’ll probably replace this video with a revised version.
Update: The Add-On Kit now comes with the 2019 team data. The 2018 season is available as a free PDF after you purchase the game. Thank you!
UPDATE April 6, 2019: the new version with audio is here:
The old version is below. I’ll be removing it soon. Thanks!
This just completed HOW TO PLAY video offers lavish illustrations! It goes over the various rules thoroughly from different directions, so I think it should be clear. The rules are easy!
This video offers all the information right now in pictures with words. It’s silent. When I have time I’ll edit audio narration.
Yesterday, the third prototype of the Mini RallyBird Board Game arrived…
I left the scissors in the photo to help you get a sense of the small, portable size. The smaller size also means cost savings for the consumer, both for the game itself and cheaper postal fees. Gameplay is the same, but some of the components are a little different, and I’m adjusting the game board accordingly to help match, and for visibility.
I was able to make revisions and order a fourth prototype…. this is progress!
Here is a link to the rules PDF: RallyBird Rules, Guide, FAQ .
You can pick up your own copy of the regular sized RallyBird Board Game here.
Here’s a pic of the Mini RallyBird Baseball box–set on top of the regular (or shall I now say, Deluxe?) RallyBird Baseball box. I’m still working on the components and trying to deliver a clear RB experience in a smaller format–and lower price. Maybe you’ll be able to carry it around in a cloth bag, included… we’ll see. I’m testing out various new wooden components with my eye on clarity and the bottom line for the consumer. With everything smaller, clarity becomes an issue. Do components block the line of sight? What if they do block the line of sight, but it’s impossible to live without them because they’re so cool? Also I’m not sure the final name of the small version will be “Mini” RallyBird… Meanwhile I’m keeping my eye on the price tag. It would be easy to let it rise up and up if I’m not ruthless with my choices, which I am! All this takes a great deal of time and fussy detail work (with graphics, for example), and waiting for the manufacture of various test versions, so it won’t be ready for awhile. I’ll keep you posted.
Feel free to send me your comments or questions about the RallyBird Baseball board game. What’s the best way to take bring home your runners on base? What are the pros and cons of certain defensive postures? I’d love to see pictures of your play sessions, and hear the details of your inning drama:
